Concrete in My Veins
August 3
Well, I hope you’ve all settled in to the reworking of EHZ. I know I really like the way it’s turning out and I’m sure the next few steps I want to take will only make it better. Max has asked that I write up a how-to for the reorg, so I think I will once I have everything under control. Well, it won’t be a how-to, but more of a rationale of what I did and why. I also hope to start writing some design articles, as well. So much to do, so little time.
Well, work’s web site is well underway to being live. I’ll be sure to post a link to it here once it goes. We’re waiting on a server transfer, then I have to upload all the files to the new server, tweak a few presentation/organization things, and we’re all set. I think it’s going to go pretty smoothly.
It’s down to just under two weeks until Elaine’s birthday. As I said before, I’m through buying presents, so now I’m just waiting on them to get here. Sometimes UPS is so slow. I think we’re going to her brother’s house for her birthday. Maybe I’ll be able to get him to finally post something new to his web site.
OK, now that you’re all caught up, I have a few favors to ask. :)
One, can anyone tell me how to set Textpattern to properly textile article titles, but not wrap them in paragraph tags? I’ve modified the txp_article.php file in textpattern/include but that’s what causes it to wrap in paragraph tags. Maybe it’s a combined edit of that and classTextile.php.
Two, I know that if you do a hyphen with spaces on either side you get an en dash ( - ) and if you do two hyphens, you get an em dash ( — ), but I want to make it make more sense. A hyphen should generate a hyphen; two hyphen with spaces on either side should generate an en dash, as en dashes are supposed to have space (en dashes, by the way, are used to show to and through, as in “5 - 7 year olds” or “from 5:00pm - 7:00pm”); and three hyphens with no spaces should generate an em dash, since em dashes are supposed to touch (em dashes are used to show breaks in thought; i.e. “Bill turned around and — I knew it was coming but it still suprised me — said…”). I tried editing classTextile.php but it didn’t work. They continued to work in the old way.
I guess that’s about it. Any and all help will be highly appreciated.
MP3 of the Week
August 2
So, it’s been up all day and no one’s said anything. Either no one’s seen it, no one cares, or it’s working fine and so there’s nothing useful to tell me about it. Yes, I’m talking about the MP3 of the Week that I’ve started. I’m going to upload one MP3 a week and let you all download it and check it out. Hope it works out well, and, please, let the RIAA find it for themselves.
A very melodic hardcore band, Wings of Azrael gives a nice mix between singing and screaming, with more of the former than the latter, which is pretty refreshing for a hardcore band.
