Literally Incredible

Is anyone else kind of sick of all the reality TV that’s out there? I mean, I’m OK with some of the better stuff (_The Apprentice_, Last Comic Standing) but the sentimental “Will he find love?” crap just needs to go. First you had shows like Blind Date and Fifth Wheel and they were alright, but the new crap like For Love Or Money and Marry My Dad is just stupid. If your dad can’t find a date/spouse, that’s his problem; I don’t want to see it on television. And if you’re so worried that the person you marry is more concerned with your money than with you, don’t stick them on some stupid show where they’re constantly assaulted by money. Even worse than this is the new show (I say new, it might be a sequal) Ultimate Love Test. Couples that have problems in their relationships go on the show. Once there, they are seperated and half of them are taken off to a tropical island where they’re constantly tempted by members of the opposite sex. Meanwhile, their other halves are back at the show, getting video “messages” of the worst parts. Why do producers want to create a show that’ll just make people’s lives worse? One couple was on there for infidelity and as soon as they got apart, the island-bound one was flirting with other people. THEY’RE NOT GOING TO GET ANY BETTER! It’s just stupid.
On the same kick (and just as stupid), I got caught up in the madness that is The WB’s Superstar USA. It was a funny-enough show, and it wasn’t THAT mean. The whole idea of the show, if you haven’t seen it, was to take the worst singers they could find and tell them they were awesome. Then, over the course of the show, eliminate the…best…of the group, leaving the absolutely worst singer as the winner…then they’d reveal the hoax. Now, I’m thinking they say “You aren’t a good singer; in fact, we chose you because of how bad you are” and the person freaks out and kills someone. That would have been a great show with a great ending. Instead, they gave the prize to a girl who’s apparently too stupid to realize what the word “hoax” means and then bought her off with $100,000 and a recording contract. No fight, no anger, nothing. What a rip!
Anyway, just had to get that off my chest. I’m not a fan of reality television, but there’s noty anything else on non-cable television. Someday I’ll be able to afford cable or satellite and I won’t have to watch this mindless drivel.
I agree! And I feel that their popularity is a sign of degrading American values. I don’t watch them at all. I’ll hear about them from talk radio. I did see a few episodes of the first Survivor though.
I also think a few of them are staged. Do you think some of them owe a debt of gratitude to Jerry Springer-type talk shows. Those are worse.
Television shouldn’t deny a money making idea, but delegate it to cable channels. MTV is perfect.

Exactly!
Or, better yet, make a Reality TV station. Then I can just erase it from my television’s presets and never have to see it.
